Why FictionMark Exists

FictionMark was created by an award-winning author who had grown increasingly frustrated with the difficulty of choosing books with confidence.

Professional awards, online reviews, star ratings, and promotional blurbs often say very little about whether a book is readable, coherent, or structurally sound. Well-intentioned readers waste time on books that never quite come together, while capable authors struggle to demonstrate that their work meets basic standards of quality.

FictionMark was built to address that gap.

Rather than judging taste, ideology, or commercial appeal, FictionMark evaluates completed manuscripts using consistent, measurable criteria—readability, narrative structure, continuity, and mechanical quality. The result is a clear, repeatable signal that helps readers understand what to expect and allows authors to demonstrate reliability.

FictionMark is intentionally narrow in scope. It does not rank books, promote titles, or replace reviewers. Its purpose is to reduce uncertainty and restore trust between readers and authors.

What FictionMark Does

Narrative Progression Requirement

FictionMark certification requires sustained narrative progression in addition to narrative voice and coherence. Works that repeatedly suspend story advancement across consecutive sections—such as extended expository, discursive, or reflective passages—may fail certification, even when written with stylistic control.
